Assistant Director of Online Education

Southwestern Law School seeks a collaborative, outgoing, and data‑driven professional to serve as Assistant Director of Online Education. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Online Education Administration, the Assistant Director helps integrate the Online J.D. Program into all academic, student‑services, and administrative systems, while spearheading student success initiatives from admission through bar preparation. This full-time and non-exempt role is based in Los Angeles and follows a hybrid schedule (three days on campus per week; additional days as needed).

The Assistant Director of Online Education supports the development and operations of Southwestern’s new Online J.D. Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the program leaders in administering the Online Education department and interfacing with faculty and staff across the law school to ensure the program is integrated into the various systems and programs. The Assistant Director will support and advise the Online J.D. Program students to help ensure they have an outstanding educational experience. The Assistant Director position requires strong leadership qualities, a growth mindset, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to think proactively and creatively.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Operations & Integration

  • Serve as an important information resource for Online J.D. Program students, faculty, and staff.
  • Coordinate course and exam scheduling in consultation with other units
  • Support budget tracking and purchasing for the Online Education Department.
  • Maintain program web pages, Canvas “Hub,” and online portal content.
  • Assist with compiling data for accreditation and regulatory reporting for the Online J.D. Program.
  • Plan and execute program‑wide events.

Student Success & Advising

  • Monitor engagement analytics in Canvas and attendance requirements in Yuja and prepare reports for the Assistant Dean for Online Education Administration.
  • Connect students with academic support, accessibility, wellness, and bar‑prep resources.
  • Manage student concerns during exam periods (midterms, finals and mandatory oral advocacy rounds).
  • Prepare data dashboards and reports to drive continuous improvement.

Communication & Engagement

  • Coordinate monthly newsletters for admitted students, first‑year, and program‑wide audiences.
  • Collaborate with IT, Marketing, and faculty to ensure consistent program messaging.

Continuous Improvement

  • Document workflows and recommend process enhancements to increase efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration or Leadership, or related field.
  • Experience working in an ABA‑accredited or online law program.
  • Experience developing student success interventions in an online environment.
  • Experience with Canvas (learning management system) and educational technology tools is preferred.
  • Counseling experience.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Highest ethical and professional standards and proven ability to exercise exemplary judgment when dealing with sensitive information and difficult situations.
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, and other programs in the Microsoft 360 suite with proficiency.

Salary: $33.66/HR
