Job Description

SUMMARY OF RELEVANT JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role will play a critical role in the development and delivery of people management strategies which support the Company’s overall strategic aims and objectives in the US and globally. The individual will act as an advisor to the management team in developing human resources policies and practices that support HUTCHMED and will be responsible for all HR operations for HMI as well. In this capacity, he/She will liaise closely with HR across the US, Europe and China. The qualified individual will be expected to maintain a close and effective personal working relationships at all levels of the organization and must possess the communication skills and professionalism required to communicate complex, sensitive and confidential information.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Workforce/Talent Management

  • Partner with leadership team to prepare and implement annual Talent and Workforce strategies that align with and promote business growth goals and objectives and serve to support the overall strategic aims and objectives of the Company

Recruitment

  • Establish recruitment process and practices for HMI Clinical Research & Development
  • Responsible for oversight of recruitment and training budget in line with company guidelines
  • Interview potential candidates for key roles across the company, providing advice on best practice to hiring managers on assessment, selection and documentation of decisions to recruit top talent

Compensation & Benefits

  • Responsible for the administration of health and wellness benefits including disability & workers compensation administration, Family & Medical Leave, absence tracking and annual holiday schedule communication
  • Act as a liaison between employees and insurance providers to resolve benefits-related problems and ensure effective utilization of plans and positive employee relations.
  • Utilize competitive market data to benchmark and analyze compensation and benefit plans and practices to ensure company is positioned in the best competitive light to attract and retain talent
  • Assist with annual salary review process, as/if required
  • Responsible for payroll and HR reports

Employee Relations

  • Develop and deploy employee engagement strategies that promote company values and culture of high performance
  • Develop and implement a performance management process ensuring that managers and employees understand performance requirements and set SMART goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound
  • Continually monitor the process, encouraging managers and employees to regularly engage in coaching and feedback discussions that identify and course correct performance gaps, reinforce and recognize strengths and discuss positive, purposeful approaches to work to achieve company goals
  • Guide and support employees on HR policies and procedures, terms and conditions of employment; ensure that the company handbook is comprehensive and up to date and that all HR plans and policies are administered in accordance with federal and state regulations
  • Provide coaching and advice to managers on employee performance issues ensuring fair balance and compliance with all company policies, best practices and employment legal requirements

HR Operations

  • Responsible for collecting and maintaining accurate and complete employee records that comply with state and federal employment requirements
  • Administer semi-monthly payroll; liaise with ADP Resource payroll service provider and ensure all information is collected and reported on time for bi-monthly payroll run
  • Liaise closely with HR offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai, providing data and reports as and when required

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSc/BA in Human Resources or relevant field; MSc/MA is a plus
  • 5-10 years of HR experience (preferably) within Pharma/Biotech/Life Sciences Industry
  • Proven HR generalist background/experience and competency is a must including the ability to work at both strategic and operational levels
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy and conciseness
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare and present reports to senior management levels
  • Collaborative, flexible team player
  • Influencing, persuading, coaching and negotiating skills
  • Prior work experience in a fast-paced, complex and high visibility organization
  • Ability to be a self-starter requiring a minimum amount of supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Possesses utmost integrity and discretion; Highly regarded as trusted business partner able to keep confidences and maintain the trust and respect of employees and managers and superiors team

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Fully conversant and up-to-date with all aspects of employment law and HR best practices in the US.
  • Experienced in the development and implementation of employment policies and procedures
  • Proven ability working in a high performing culture with strong problem-solving skills
  • Experienced in recruitment of top talent including candidate care, behavioral interviewing, assessment and selection for all levels of positions across the company
  • Proficient in HRIS systems (SAP, Workday, PeopleSoft)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
