Description

The Orthopaedic Non-Operative Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries in active individuals and athletes, with an emphasis on non-surgical management. They will collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physical therapists and orthopaedic surgeons, to coordinate comprehensive care. Overall, they play a vital role in helping patients maintain their activity levels and improve their quality of life while avoiding surgical interventions when possible.

Requirements

  • Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough evaluations of patients with musculoskeletal injuries, including detailed history-taking and physical examinations.
  • Diagnosis: Utilize diagnostic imaging (X-rays, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) and clinical findings to accurately diagnose a range of sports-related injuries and conditions.
  • Non-Surgical Treatment: Develop and implement personalized treatment plans that may include medications, physical therapy, rehabilitation exercises, and ultrasound-guided procedures, including injections and minor musculoskeletal interventions.
  • Injury Prevention: Design and promote injury prevention programs tailored to athletes and active individuals, focusing on proper techniques and training regimens.
  • Team Coverage: Assist in providing sideline and/or training room coverage for local high schools and colleges.
  • Ortho-ASAP Clinic Coverage: Group has a high-volume walk-in clinic, and the provider would be asked to assist with coverage.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with physical therapists, athletic trainers, and orthopaedic surgeons to ensure comprehensive patient care and continuity of treatment.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients about their injuries, treatment options, and self-management strategies to enhance recovery and prevent future injuries.
  • Performance Optimization: Provide guidance on nutrition, conditioning, and training strategies to help athletes improve performance and maintain peak physical condition.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Research and Education: Stay current with advancements in sports medicine and participate in clinical research and educational initiatives as needed. Be involved in local and regional sports medicine community endeavors.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Perform related work as required and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with a fellowship in Sports Medicine.
  • Strong clinical skills in diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Set priorities and strategically identify issues, underlying problems, and potential solutions to develop a plan of action.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This position must be able to travel or attend business conferences, possibly out of state. Less than 10% travel required. The primary work environment is office based. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Will occasionally be out in the clinic/surgery environment where the environment has patients and physicians, is frequently exposed to airborne particles, and is rarely exposed to bodily fluids.
