The Radiology Assistant / Transporter, at St. Charles Health System, provides transportation of patients to and from the Radiology Services Department, as requested with careful consideration for the patient’s experience and condition. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers. Essential functions include verifying and transporting the proper patient by visually checking patient identification and verifying with nursing staff; transporting patients to and from radiology, ED and inpatient areas via wheelchair, bed or gurney; assisting patients in and out of bed using proper patient care and lifting techniques; assisting technologists with patient movement and positioning; observing patient and equipment during transport and reporting unusual occurrences; comforting patients and families to alleviate anxiety and fear; aiding with non-patient transport including laboratory specimens, beds, and CDs; maintaining safe and clean radiology transport equipment; safely handling medical equipment including IV pumps and poles, oxygen tanks, patient charts, monitors and other equipment; assisting with Radiology Clerical duties as requested; following safety protocols and infection control guidelines; supporting the vision, mission, and values of the organization; supporting Lean principles of continuous improvement; providing and maintaining a safe environment; conducting all activities with professionalism and confidentiality; utilizing AIDET to prepare patients for procedures; delivering customer service and/or patient care in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner; and performing additional duties of similar complexity as required or assigned. Education required is a high school diploma or GED. BLS Certification is required within six months of hire. Preferred experience includes six months hospital patient transport experience and customer service experience. Physical requirements include standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling weights up to 50 pounds, and occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and reaching overhead. The position is part-time with variable shifts and includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, a 403(b) retirement plan, and Earned Time Off (ETO).
